Ben is a trumpeter brought up in the Leicestershire area and has nearly two decades worth of experience in music making, having taken up the trumpet at a very early age. Subsequent to his enrolment in the Leicestershire Arts in Education organisation aged eleven, he became a member of numerous bands and orchestras. This nurtured a passion for music that culminated in a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Huddersfield, with a specialisation on the trumpet.
Whilst attending university he engaged with numerous styles and ensembles, experiencing wind bands, orchestras, brass bands, contemporary groups and choirs. Performing with intimate chamber groups including both a trumpet and barbershop quartet served as inspiration for the formation of the Argento Brass quintet. This vast range of experience gives Ben the diversity that all modern trumpeters need.
As a soloist Ben frequently plays recitals across the country with many other quality performers. His repertoire is vast ranging from the early works of Bach to modern popular music. As a musician Ben is always trying to encourage new music written for the trumpet and his favourite works are those written for the modern Bb trumpet that test the dexterity and composure of the player, while still maintaining a beautiful sound that audiences love to listen to.
Ben’s diverse playing career includes work with small brass ensembles as well as symphony Orchestras around the country, coupled with his solo performances and teaching Ben remains frequently busy throughout the year.
